whew… what a day I just had!!! So I have been taking this bible study for the last 10 weeks that has totally & undeniably changed my life. We went through a book called The Search for Significance by Robert McGee. We met every week & talked mostly about our “burdens” or the things that we struggled with most in life that kept us from growing deeper in our faith. Our fearless leader, Buffy, had been telling us all summer that she had a special event in store for us when we were finished that would be unforgettable. Today all 10 of us met up near Carowinds & carpooled to our adventure. We ended up at a camp that Buffy’s son, Nick, runs called Camp Caanan (http://www.campcanaan.org). Along with a few others it was his dream to open up this amazing camp on the Catawba River. It was BEAUTIFUL… unlike any other camp that I had ever been to b/c it was so fresh & new & the plans for this camp are incredible! This was actually the first year that campers have come there & I just wish Chase had been old enough b/c I think I would have sent him all summer:) Anyhow, our adventure today involved kayaking 6 (no Mary, not 600) miles down the Catawba River with a balloon tied to the front of our kayak. We wrote our burdens with black marker on our balloons so that we had to stare at them the entire trip. The balloon was SO annoying! It got in the way, got tangled, went underwater, & some of them even popped. Buffy made it very clear what the point of the balloons was. We were all carrying unnecessary burdens in our lives that it was time to let go of. When we stopped for lunch we had some time to think & pray & release our balloons to Jesus to let him take them from us once & for all. I don’t think any of us will ever turn around & run back to those balloons… nope… they are long gone!! There are very few experiences in my life that I would categorize as “life changing” but this is at the top of my list for sure. I think all of us girls would like to give a special shout out to our fearless leader, Buffy. The ways that the Lord has used you in our lives is amazing.. keep it rockin’ girl!
